A wind chime beneath my deck began to jingle and I was suddenly rescued from my winter nightmare and back to the reality of the spring afternoon.  The sun was shining, the sky was blue and everything around me was that wonderful deep spring green.  The landscape that had been so ravaged by the brutal winter had come back greater and stronger than before. The trees flowered more vibrantly in fact all the trees were growing faster and producing seeds, acorns and those annoying whirli-bird things from the Maple trees.

It was then I realized, Mother Nature had dealt itself a nasty punch with the long winter but had easily recovered and regenerated with the passing of the seasons.  It highlights the fact that global warming, global cooling, climate change and whatever they want to call it this week is nonsense.  When did we become so arrogant that we  started to believe that our actions were more powerful than those of the earth? When you get a moment take some time to ponder the vastness of the earth, the massive volume of the oceans and the miles of endless sky.  Think about the planet’s ability to reach out and destroy a piece of itself whenever it pleases.  In the end the same thing always happens, the planet heals/regenerates and reconfigures.

Enjoy the ride and face the reality that the earth is in charge, not humans.

I don’t want to hear the vapid argument that it was written by “old white slave owners” and has no relevance in today’s world. I believe these documents are more relevant than ever as we endure this latest progressive push. The documents were written by people who lived with a powerful and oppressive government. They didn’t like it! They purposely crafted something that called for small, limited Federal Government and that allowed for local control. We’ve strayed so far from this vision…but that’s a discussion for another day! More to the point, up until the last 20 years or so “going broke” was the last thing you worried about when you got sick. When you got sick you worried about staying alive!

One of the reasons I believe so many people have shown so much outrage in recent weeks over healthcare and other proposed programs is not because they are racist, selfish, right wing kooks who don’t care. It’s because they understand the hidden meaning behind the statement “Nobody should go broke because they got sick”. If seen to fruition It means more mismanaged government controlled programs that collect more tax dollars from those who have worked hard to pursue careers, build businesses and own property. Those tax dollars will go to people who (believe it or not) do not pay taxes and in many cases already collect substantial sums from the government and don’t own any property.

Does the healthcare system need reform? Yes. Does it need a taxpayer funded option to achieve reform? No! When does this cycle end? Will we hear? “Nobody should lose their home just because they don’t have a job”…Oh wait we already did! or “Everyone has a right to a flat-screen TV because of the digital mandate ” How about, “Nobody should ever suffer a hardship, go broke, lose a job, fail miserably or a eat the shit sandwich life just served you because it’s just not fair!” Come on people! When did we get so soft? What made this country great is that the people who built it took risks, failed, got knocked to the ground, or ate a shit sandwich and then got back up, dusted themselves off, re-invented themselves and worked even harder to achieve success! The cliché, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is used for a reason…Life is tough and we all need to have personal responsibility and perseverance to make it through. No government program is ever going to replace this fact.

I read recently that a fast growing percentage of able bodied, working age males in the UK are choosing not to work! They have simply left the workforce and are being supported by government programs! Think about that? Government programs are so pervasive that there is NO motivation to work! These insidious programs are not lifting them up, they are dragging them down! Why start a business? Why invent? Why innovate? Why work? There is no need because the government is meeting all my needs! There is a reason why European Socialism the Progressive Agenda are labeled “Soft Tyranny”, it’s because while you’re all warm, cozy and protected in your welfare cocoon you have given control of your life over to the government. In short, the government now controls you! The statement “Nobody should go broke because they got sick” is the antipathy of Soft Tyranny being sold as compassion. More government is not the answer to fixing the healthcare system.
